Several services and facilities are located inside the site of Petra, after passing through the Siq, to ensure the comfort of visitors. These include food and beverage outlets, toilet facilities and souvenir stands.

Food and beverage

Refreshments including water, sodas, tea and coffee are sold at a number of shaded outlets throughout the site, so you can stop and take a rest.

There are also two restaurants located at the end of the main route, where guests can enjoy a meal in the open air or indoors. The Basin Restaurant (operated by the Crowne Plaza) accommodates more than 300 customers and serves international and oriental cuisine, including a salad bar, grills and barbeque. The Nabataean Tent Restaurant seats more than 400 and serves Arabic and Italian cuisine buffet style or ala carte. 

Transport

Generally visitors get into and around Petra by walking; however a number of transport options are available to move within the site:

Horse carriages: These accommodate one or two persons and transport visitors through the Siq. They can be hired for JD20 and travel 4 kilometers roundtrip from the Park entrance to the Treasury. Specific pick up times can be arranged with your driver allowing time for individual exploration.

For physically challenged guests, horse carriages can be arranged to travel roundtrip from the Park entrance to the Basin area. Special permission must be secured in advanced for this JD40 tour.

Horses: Visitors can opt to make the 10-minute trip from the ticket gate to the start of the Siq on horseback. Horses are not allowed through the Siq and therefore the ride will end at the Siq entrance. Horses can be hired for JD7 per person. Horses travel 700 meters from the Park’s entrance to the entrance of the Siq.

Please note that for guests who visit Petra through a tour operator, a horse fee of JD7 is compulsory for each guest, whether or not the horse is utilized.

Camels: Camels inside the site can be used for short trips down the main trail, led by a camel guide.

Rubbish bins

Trash cans and large rubbish bins are located along the main walking routes throughout the site. Please dispose of all rubbish in these bins and do not litter the site.

Restrooms

Restrooms are located inside the Visitors Center. Additional restrooms can also be found 30 meters away when exiting to the left of the Visitors Center. Inside Petra restrooms are located inside a cave near the Theatre and in the Basin area. Green and yellow portable bathrooms are located at the following points:

·         Entrance of the Siq

·         Next to staircase leading up to the High Place of Sacrifice

·         The Blue Church

·         Beidha (Siq al Bared)

·         The Monastery (Ad Deir)

·         Qasr Al Bint
